Seeing red/Voir rouge

This post was almost called On hold because I ran out of yarn while working on the sleeves of the Afro sweater and I couldn't find the rest of the hanks I had bought. I had finished the front earlier this week and I finally did the chart for the sleeve last night and I started them right away but then you know the rest of the story. Seems it was another case of me outsmarting myself, I constantly misplace stuff but you'd think that since I have shelving dedicated to carrying my stash that I wouldn't have that problem but no. Of course the yarn was on the shelving, in the bag they came in. Anyhow, working the intarsia chart was easy even though I haven't quite mastered the tension during the colour switch. It's like working a multicoloured yarn, the constant switch keeps it interesting as does following the chart rather then having to constantly measure all the time. I'd say it makes time fly by.

My sewing will resume soon. I went to Fabricville's preview sale and bought this plum coloured boiled wool fabric on the left to make a coat out of it. I've been searching the different patterns to find an interesting one and failing that, I've also been searching different online catalogs and Style.com to find something and finally I found it at this local company called SoïaKyo. I will borough a couple of ideas and I will modify this McCall pattern to make it. The sleeves will be shortened and there will be another detail I will explain in due time. The fabric on the right is a chocolate jersey with which I will make a kimono sleeve funnel neck top. I've seen it a few times on Kelly Deck, the host of HGTV Canada's Take it outside. It will be easy to make, I've already bought a T-shirt pattern to be modified to make it.

I dyed my hair again and I'm disappointed with the colour. This is the product I used and look at the difference. I wanted more of a golden blond colour like the box shows otherwise I would have used this colour. Taking a closer look at the model's hair I realized that she probably had a double process done which did not yield the same result.

Have you seen the new Knitty out this week? It has a pattern for a beret called Urchin. Coincidence I suppose since I published two patterns called Sea Urchin and Urchin Redux on my blog last winter. I'm not saying I was copied because that pattern uses a different knitting technique as well as a totally different yarn, I'm just saying that next time, one would have to do a research to make sure that a name is not already in use for a pattern. I myself realized after publishing that there's another scarf pattern called Lucy out there. I have to say that Woodins is my favorite.

That's too bad about the hair dying. I've had that experience before where you dont exactly get what the box shows. Still your hair looks nice though!

Your afro sweater looks great already - were you working on it last night? I didn't pay attention, but I'll have to look at it next time we meet and you have it with you!
